This is a highly entertaining (and much awarded) new spin on the King Arthur legend.
The year is 1199, the place the Welsh Marches. Thirteen year old Arthur de Caldicot is the second son of a knight, so he has to learn to be a knight and earn his own land, even though he's left handed and not much good at fighting.
Things start to hot up when Arthur is given a shining stone in which his legendary namesake is revealed. In 100 short chapters that brilliantly evoke life in a medieval manor, stories of the boy King Arthur begin to echo and anticipate the secrets and mysteries that emerge in his own life.
The Seeing Stone won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, the Tir na nOg prize and the Nestle Smarties Book Prize Bronze Medal, and was shortlisted for the Whitbread Award.
